Inspiration Pic: Make Up For Ever

Goes with the Rock For Ever products. You can get the look, by going to the MUFE website. They are working hard on updating it and looks alot better than before. Although, sometimes I have a hard time navigating through it. A lot of missed connections I think. Also includes a "making of" video of the photoshoot. It's pretty neat.

Thanksgiving Look: Tutorial

MMMmmm Turkey Day. To create a Thanksgiving look, I thought about the warm colors of.....the turkey. Yes, turkey. Brown, black and gold. Feathers that is. Complete the look with a nice wing to go along with a turkey wing. Eh, let's face it. Coming up with a "turkey" look can go wrong in so many different ways, so let's go simple and focus on the warm colors of the holiday. Goes well with the stuffing, I might add :)

Urban Decay Sets

Urban Decay is a brand that is known for it's crazy awesome eye shadow colors. Not to mention their purple packaging. They also had some innovative "Book of Shadows" come out, like the "Alice in Wonderland" palette and their recent "UD <3 NY" palette. They have such great palettes, it would take me forever to name them all but I must mention a couple that are top sellers that would also make great gifts:

Painted Love Lipstick Set
$28

A very cute set of 6 miniature lipsticks. Ranging from the reddest of reds to a neutral pink. I own one of her lipsticks in "Lolita", and I must say, I've tried them all. They are a matte finish and VERY long lasting. The colors are very pigmented and they did not dry my lips out at all. Most matte lipsticks are drying but these are not. Excellent value for this set and the colors are perfect for anyone trying to find that perfect red. She has created some awesome colors. Including 2 new ones for this set.

Holiday Gift Sets 2010

One of the many reasons why I love the Holidays...Gift Sets! I love how all my favorite brands come out with cute, shiny new sets. My only downfall is trying to buy them all. Hopefully, Santa will read my blog and surprise me with 1 or 2...or more. Hey, I've been good, well maybe... good enough ;)

I hope some of my posts will give you some inspiration for gift giving. Everything is at such a good value, plus, it's a great way of trying new things that you never would've tried before. Some sets have trial sizes of their most popular products all in one. Great for having around to throw in your purse. Some sets even have a full size product along with a mini version of it, specifically for that purpose. Another set example, having all new products (limited edition) together, created especially for the holidays, to feel festive and get all dolled up for the holiday parties and whatnot's. Those I must say, are my favorite kinds of sets. :)

Whichever set you choose, I'm sure the receiver will absolutely love it. Who doesn't love 12 different shades of lip glosses to choose from, or a favorite brand coming out with a "winter snowflake dazzle" eyeshadow palette? I sure do, but then again, I am a makeup junkie.

Happy Holiday Shopping!

Halloween Lashes

I looove Halloween! I think I just like shopping for all the cool things that come out for Halloween. Especially Makeup made just for the holiday. Here are a couple of things I got to start my Series of 13 Looks for Halloween. The Spyder ones I used Last Year for work so sorry it looks a little used. More to come....

Inspiration: Pixiwoo Blog

I follow alot of other makeup/artist blogs. I've followed Pixiwoo when she was on You tube, watching their awesome tutorials, and just being inspired by them. They had a contest awhile ago to win a Tokidoki Brush set. Of course I entered. All you had to do was send them an Inspirational Pic that inspired you. I sent one but it didn't get picked :( but...they picked one that was amazing. So I decided I wanted to do it too. You can check out the blog and see what I am talking about and maybe find that they are awesome too and follow them as well. :) Here's mine. I only did eye not whole face.

http://pixiwoo.blogspot.com/search/label/competition

I love Football!

Being from Minnesota my favorite team is of course the Vikings. Their colors are Purple and Gold. The mascot is a Viking, duh. I try to have fun when the games come on and show my support the only way I know how. I did 2 different looks.

Black and Red Smokey Eye tutorial

I was inspired by an old Avril Lagvine picture I found on the internet. She was wearing a very bright red shadow with black to smoke it out. I'm sure if there are any Avril fans out there, you know what I'm talking about. I didn't save the pic to show for comparison and believe me I tried to look for it. It was from some random site. It stuck with me for a while and I just decided to do it to get it out of my head. Beautiful for Blue or Green eyes. brings out the green in Hazel colored eyes.

How to:

  1. Apply a primer all over eyelid up to under brow. Use under lower lash if desired. I don't usually put primer under my lower lash because I use a waterproof eyeliner as a base for my shadows. I used Urban Decay Primer Potion

  2. Using Kat Von D 'Love and Fury' palette. Apply the red cream Bloodletting, to the eye lid. Blend well into crease. Any red eyeshadow cream will work although I havn't seen alot.

  3. Using Alice in Wonderland palette by Urban Decay, pat the color Queen, all over eyelid and into crease. The color is also known as Last Call.

  4. Using AIW palette again, apply color Jabberwocky (also known as Oil Slick), to outer 1/3 corner of eye and blend into crease. Leave some Queen color on the inner eye corner.

  5. Using AIW palette, apply color White Rabbit (also known as Polyester Bride), lightly under brow as highlight. I find patting the color on with a crease brush prevents any glitter fallout. Reapply if you need more color until you reach desired effect.

  6. Line upper eye lash with any black eyeliner. I used Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Zero.

  7. With same black eyeliner line bottom lashes and inner water line. Blend with smudge brush.

  8. Apply color Queen from AIW palette on top of smudged black liner.

  9. Finish with lots of mascara.

  10. Lashes are optional. I used Makeup Forever # 27 Laura

Tools Recommended:

  1. Eyeshadow Brush

  2. Smudge Brush

  3. Crease Brush

  4. Small Detail Eyeshadow Brush (for outer corners and crease)

Adora Palette Tutorial

For this look I used the Kat Von D Love and Fury palette. Using the black cream, Crucifix, as a base, the black shadow with blue glitter specks, Oddfellow, to set on the lid, and the dark gray color, Glock, in the crease. For under the brow I used a Bare Mineral eyeshadow in 2000 to give it more sparkle. The top eyelash was lined with Too Faced glitter liner in Smurfette. On the inner rim of lower lash I used Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero. Mascara was a combo of 2 coats of Sephora Lash Stretcher, and finished with Sephora Plump mascara.

This look was really fast to do and is meant to be more of a dramatic look. I wore this out to the bank and the teller was really mesmerized with it or she was just shocked. Either way, wear it if you dare.

How to:
  1. Using your ring finger, lightly apply Crucifix all over top lid and into crease. Blending edges and does not have to be perfect. Not too thick or it will crease. Less is more and adding is better than taking off.
  2. Take Oddfellow and pat color onto upper eye lid. Do not blend too much as the glitter will not be as bold.
  3. Take Glock and press into the crease of eye. With a blending brush soften edges.
  4. Lightly pat 2000 under brow and reapply Glock if needed.
  5. Line upper lash line with Smurfette.
  6. Line lower lash line and inner rim with Zero and smudge with smudge brush.
  7. Apply Oddfellow on top of lower lash liner to set.
  8. Finish with LOTS of mascara or even false lashes for more impact.

I'm not going to post brushes anymore as it takes forever to do and I pretty much use the same ones. I have the brushes on my other tutorials posted with links to see what they look like if you have any questions.

Artistic types of Halloween makeup. Taken from IMATS site.

Countdown to Halloween 2010

It's my time of year!

Autumn is my favorite season. I just love the crisp cold air, and the colors the leaves make when they are changing. I think from the hazy days of summer, fall makes everything look so much more clean and sharp. The nights are beautiful and the smell of bonfires and heat, clashing with the fall breeze makes me want to cuddle up under a blanket and watch scary movies. This is heaven to me.

Multicolored Smokey Eye

Just a fun, different multicolored smokey eye. The blue really makes brown eyes pop, and the bronze on the lower lash line mixes up the look so it's not just one big blue blob around the eye.

Products Used:

  1. Benefit Stay don't Stray - eye and concealer primer

  2. Makeup Forever Flash Color #015

  3. Stila Duo Eyeshadow

  4. Lorac Eyeshadow - Bronze

  5. Bare Mineral Eyeshadow - Tiara

  6. Clinique Eyeshadow - Buttermilk

  7. Lancome Waterproof Eyeliner - Cafe

  8. Korres Mascara - Black

Tools Used:

  1. Laura Mercier Eye Colour Brush

  2. Laura Mercier Creme Eye Detail Brush

  3. Smashbox Definer Brush #15

  4. Sephora Smudge Brush

  5. Tarina Tarantino Crease Brush

How To:

  1. Prime eyelids and under eye with Benefit primer.

  2. Using L.M. Creme brush apply MUFE flash color on eye lid only.

  3. Blend MUFE flash color with a clean Smashbox Definer brush up from eyelid and into crease, softening the color.

  4. Using L.M. Eye Colour brush, pat the lightest blue from Stila duo e/s onto eye lid, covering up the MUFE Cream. Apply more color until you reach desired effect.

  5. Using Smashbox Definer brush, dip into the lightest blue color again and sweep into the crease, this is making the color go on lighter than your lid, making a multi-dimensional effect. Apply more color until you reach desired effect.

  6. Now it's time to blend. Using the T.T. Crease brush, softly blend the crease color so there are no harsh edges.

  7. Apply Clinique e/s with T.T. Crease brush under brows.

  8. Apply B.M. e/s with L.M. Eye Colour brush into inner corners of eye.

  9. Line upper and lower lash lines with Lancome Waterproof e/l.

  10. Using a clean Sephora Smudge brush, smudge the lower lash line.

  11. Apply Lorac Bronze e/s on top of the lower lash line eyeliner.

  12. Finish with 2 coats of Korres mascara on top and bottom lashes.

For a better view of this, I got this look from the Smashbox website. Of course, they use all Smashbox products, but this just shows you, you can acheive any look with what you have. Check out all the other looks while you are there for more ideas. http://www.smashbox.com/Get-The-Look

I ADORA Kat Von D

I just got my Kat Von D 'Adora' pallete. Or otherwise known as the 'Love and Fury' palette. I know, I'm a little behind on the release, but at least I got to add it to my collection. I pretty much have them all except for the purple one, 'True Love'. I hesitated on that one cause the colors in it looked so much like the others I already have. But....sigh.....I'll end up buying it anyways, cause I'm sure it wants to be with it's family. Plus, it would go so well with the new blog now ;)

As you can see, they all have been very good to me. And some have been in the toddlers hands and broken. These palettes break very easily, so I would suggest putting them somewhere where you know they won't bump into anything. I wouldn't put these palettes in a makeup bag. And for heaven's sake DON'T DROP THEM!!! Black eyeshadow EVERYWHERE!!!!!

Other than that, I love the pigments. The colors blend beautifully together. Very easy to work with. The creams that come with some palettes are something less to be desired. Although I haven't played with my new 'Adora' palette yet, which has 4 creams, they seem to be really flaky or they crease without fail, even if you have an eyeshadow primer on.

The colors in the palette are very unique, I am always getting compliments about the colors on my eye. Especially when I wear 'Hard Luck' in the 'Memento Mori' collection. That's the white palette with blue design. The color is a teal/green with gold sparkle. It has to be my favorite color so far! The names for the colors are to die for. In the new pallete there's "Ace of Spades", which reminds me of the song by Motorhead (Motorhead was one of the duo eyeshadow names). "Slayer" which is another awesome name. "Bloodletting" is pretty rad. Just a few that I like from 1 palette. There are so many. Will get into more detail when I do eye looks with them all.

Palette Names starting from top L to R:

Ludwig ~~~~~~ Metal Orchestra
Beethoven ~~~~~~ Gypsy
Memento Mori ~~~~~~ Adora/Love and Fury

The Summer Look I'm Rockin

Super Easy to do and you can do any other color on the lower lash line. I've done Blue, Purple, Green. I like purple for brown eyes. The bronze liquid liner really sparkles in the sun. A fun summery look that's perfect for the beach or even a hot summer night.

Products used:
  1. Urban Decay Primer Potion 'Sin'
  2. Lorac Eyeshadow 'Bronze'
  3. Urban Decay Eyeshadow 'Half Baked'
  4. Korres Eyeshadow '24s Gold'
  5. Urban Decay Eyeshadow 'Flash'
  6. Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner 'Zero'
  7. Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner 'Lust'
  8. Too Faced Liquid Eyeliner 'Metal Eyed Brown Sugar'
  9. Makeup Forever Mascara 'Aqua Smokey Eye'

Tools Used:

  1. Tarte Brush with Greatness double ended brush http://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-brush-with-greatness
  2. Laura Mercier Eye Colour Brush http://www.lauramercier.com/store/shop/Brushes-for-Eyes-_Eye-Colour-Brush_prod220090
  3. Tarina Tarantino Crease Brush http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254913&categoryId=C22000
  4. Sephora Platinum Smudge Brush #11 http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P102922&categoryId=C17412&shouldPaginate=true

How to:

  1. Apply U.D. Primer Potion all over eyelid up to brows. 'Sin' has a slight shimmer to it. This will help your eyeshadow color shimmer even more.
  2. Apply Lorac Bronze eyeshadow with the flat end of the Tarte brush, all over eye lid.
  3. Apply Lorac Bronze eyeshadow with rounded edge into the crease.
  4. Lightly blend color in crease with T.T. crease brush to soften color.
  5. Apply Korres Gold eyeshadow with crease brush under brows for a soft highlight.
  6. If needed, go back and apply more Bronze into crease and blend with crease brush to get rid of any harsh edges. (Sometimes steps 3,4,5 need to be repeated for desired outcome of "look")
  7. Apply U.D. Half Baked to inner 1/3 corner of eye w/Laura Mercier brush. This gives the shadow some dimension on the lid and brightens it up.
  8. Line upper lash line with U.D. 24/7 Zero
  9. Using Too Faced liquid liner Brown Sugar, line on top of Zero. This technique makes the liquid liner more opaque. It also helps if you aren't very good at using a liquid, you can use the pencil line as a guide.
  10. Apply U.D. 24/7 eyeliner Lust on lower lash line, smudge with smudge brush.
  11. Using Sephora Smudge brush, apply U.D. eyeshadow Flash on lower lash line, setting the pencil for more longer wear.
  12. Finish with Makeup Forever Aqua Smokey Eye for waterproof protection on top and bottom lashes.

Too Faced Naked Eye Palette Look

I used the last line of 3 colors in Fashion. Pink Cheeks is a highlight color with pink sparkles. Lap Dance is a very light silverish that pulls a little copper? Stiletto is a matte black.

Products Used:
  1. Urban Decay Primer Potion
  2. Too Faced Naked Eye Palette
  3. Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Eyeliner 'Zero'
  4. Too Faced Lashlight Mascara 'Black'

Tools used:

  1. Tarte 'brush with greatness' double-ended brush http://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-brush-with-greatness
  2. Tarina Tarantino #74 smudge http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254913
  3. Tarina Tarantino #56 crease http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254913
  4. Sephora Brand Platinum Brush #11 smudge http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P102922&categoryId=C17384&shouldPaginate=true
  5. Sephora Brand Platinum brush #14 medium shadow http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P148006&categoryId=C17384&shouldPaginate=true

How to:

  1. Apply Urban Decay Primer Potion all over eye lid up to brow and under lower lashes w/finger.
  2. Apply Lap Dance all over eye lid w/tapered end of Tarte brush and flip brush over and apply Lap Dance into crease w/rounded edge. Go as high as you want to go.
  3. Use T.T. crease brush and blend Lap Dance only to get rid of any harsh edges and soften the color.
  4. Apply Stiletto w/T.T. smudge brush to outer 1/3 corner of eye. Blend color up and into crease and darken as much as you want. You could go darker than what I did.
  5. Take T.T. crease brush to blend Stiletto color to soften it up. If necessary, re-apply Stiletto to areas you want.
  6. Apply Pink Cheeks lightly w/Sephora Plat. Brush #14 under brows. Blend color well.
  7. Apply Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner to waterline of lower lashes and smudge out with Sephora Plat. Brush #11. Let set.
  8. Apply Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner to upper lash line.
  9. Using Sephora Plat. Brush #11 apply Lap Dance over Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner on lower lashes corner to corner. This will intensify the color.
  10. Apply Stilleto to outer 1/2 of lower lash w/Sephora Plat. Brush #11 on top of Lap Dance. Stop so Lap Dance color is only about 1/3 of the inner corner of lower lash line.
  11. Finish with Too Face Lashlight mascara on top and bottom lashes.
